3 Ford Tourneo accessories you didn’t know you needed.

We list the top three functional accessories you didn't know you needed for your Ford Tourneo Custom to bolster your ownership experience.

Car Ownership

The Ford Tourneo Custom model arrived in South Africa in 2013 and is aimed at individuals, businesses and even families that need the extra seats for passengers. The Tourneo Custom is currently offered in both long-wheelbase and short-wheelbase form and fitted with either a 2.0-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder diesel motor or a 2.2-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder diesel engine.

Whether you own one of the earlier iterations or the more recent models that was introduced in 2020, chances are that there are a few accessories you wouldn't mind installing for aesthetic appeal. This list, however, focuses on more functional items that not only comes in handy on occasion but even bolster occupant safety at all times.

1. Tow bar

Even though the Tourneo Custom offer ample space for passengers and luggage, what about those items that just won't fit in the cabin, even with the seats removed? Well, that is where a tow bar comes in handy. Now you can connect a trailer to carry a variety of things from garden refuse to Jet Skis or boats not to mention the caravan for the family vacation.

2. Roof rack

While on the topic of luggage space, why not consider a roof rack. When your Ford Tourneo Custom is filled to the brim with passengers, you might run out of luggage space and this is where the roof rack will come in handy. If you are an adventurous type, the roof rack works well for carrying kayaks or bicycles to your next destination.

3. Privacy glass

Most will consider safety glass as being purely an aesthetic accessory, however, it adds more to your vehicle than you think. First and foremost, the privacy glass limits the amount of sun rays entering the cabin during those hot summer months. This not only means that your air conditioning system will have to work less to cool down your passengers, but because the air conditioning system is not working as hard, it will put less strain on the engine and thus be more efficient.

Another reason why this is not only an aesthetic accessory is in the name, privacy glass. With the darker tint, it makes it more difficult for smash and grabbers to see valuables inside the cabin. If the window breaks for any reason, it being rocks or debris, the privacy glass will also keep most of the glass in place instead of shattering over the passengers potentially causing cuts.
