Being a van designed for trade, owners will need to know what exactly is covered under the Ford Transit Custom manufacturer warranty. A manufacturer warranty is also known as a factory warranty which usually covers parts and systems that break down due to flaws or defects in factory-installed parts. These warranties can save you a lot of time and money if something were to happen to your vehicle due to a factory fault. Many customers, however, know about the warranty but not many know what is covered. This article expands on the manufacturer warranty offered with the Ford Transit Custom.

Warranty

It is worth mentioning that all Transit Van and Transit Chassis Cab models come standard with a six-year/90 000km service plan, three-year unlimited distance roadside assistance and four-year/120 000km comprehensive warranty. This is complemented by a five-year/unlimited distance corrosion warranty on all Transit Van and Transit Chassis Cab.

What is covered?

• Bumper-to-Bumper: The most comprehensive, bumper-to-bumper warranties cover everything but a few excluded parts on your Ford that may vary from vehicle to vehicle.

• Corrosion: This coverage applies to rust damage and corrosion of the body panels or frame as long as they aren’t caused by abnormal driving conditions.

• Safety Restraint System: This covers the seatbelts and airbag system of your vehicle from defects.

• Powertrain: A powertrain warranty covers the engine (all internally lubricated parts, cylinder block, cylinder heads, electrical fuel pump, powertrain control module, engine mounts etc) transmission (all internal parts, clutch cover, seals and gaskets etc), front-wheel and rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive or all-wheel-drive systems. Some of these items include axle shafts, rear bearings, centre support bearing, drive axle housing and the like.

• Emissions: The Defects and Performance emissions warranties cover defective parts related to the vehicle’s emissions system, such as the airflow sensor, catalytic converter, and exhaust manifold. There are several differences under the California Emission Warranty Coverage, so check your contract for details specific to your vehicle.

Ford South Africa also offers Ford Protect which is an extended warranty that is tailor-made for you and your business needs. It is also worth mentioning that these warranties can be voided if you, the owner fail to maintain your Ford Transit according to the recommendations made by the manufacturer.

Some of these recommendations include the fitting of genuine Ford parts, making use of Ford approved service technicians. You can also void your warranty and other plans if you modify your vehicle with non-Ford approved parts. It is highly recommended that you familiarise yourself with the regulations regarding your manufacturer warranty so as to best benefit from the plan.
