The Ford Tourneo and Transit models were first introduced locally in 2013, however, after the launch of the smaller Transit- and Tourneo Connect models, Ford added the Custom nomenclature to the larger offerings. Even though the Tourneo Connect model is no longer sold locally, the Tourneo Custom retains its name to avoid confusion.

Derivatives

The Ford Tourneo Custom is available in three levels of specification namely Ambiente, Trend and Limited. The Ambiente variant which is the entry point to the range and of which there is only one, come in long-wheelbase configuration and fitted with a 2.2-litre, turbocharged, diesel motor. Customers that opt for Trend models also only have the option of long-wheelbase configuration, however, gains the choice of a 2.0-litre, turbocharged, diesel engine.

Both short-wheelbase offerings only come in the highest specification level, Limited, but is again offered with either the 2.2 TDCi or 2.0 SiT engine options. Although these are the same engines found in the long-wheelbase Trends derivatives, there are small differences in power and torque ratings.

Conclusion

The Ford Tourneo Custom is a jack of all trades type of vehicle, not only will the model work well with families but also serve a hotel well as a shuttle vehicle. Those than need more luggage space might want to opt for the long-wheelbase models whereas those that only require enough seating for a group can consider the short-wheelbase derivatives.

Our choice if we were to buy a short-wheelbase variant is the Ford Tourneo Custom Limited 2.2 TDCi as not only does it offer good performance ratings but is packed with creature comforts. Our overall winner is the long-wheelbase Ford Tourneo Custom Trend 2.2 TDCi as not only is its performance figures similar to the more premium offerings, it retains good levels of comfort features while coming in at a much lower purchase price.
