1. Suzuki Swift
The current-generation Suzuki Swift was designed by Suzuki's in-house design team rather than by a specific designer. It perfectly embodies the urban chic inside and out.
2. Kia Picanto
Kia's Picanto is one of the South Korean manufacturer's stylish vehicles, designed by Peter Schreyer. It's an agile little vehicle brimming with confidence, and the recent facelift gives it a cyberpunk look.
3. Volkswagen Polo Vivo
The second-generation Polo Vivo is based on the Mk5 Polo, originally designed by Walter de Silva. The latest version adds to the already striking design, keeping Walter's original design fresh and attractive.
4. Mahindra XUV 3XO
Mahindra's XUV 3XO was led by Chief Design Officer Pratap Bose, with the aim of a bold, radical design. The front fascia incorporates the letter 'M' really well.
5. Jaecoo J5
The J5 was designed under the guidance of Chris Rhoades, who had previously designed a few cars in Europe. The J5 certainly has a signature European aesthetic.
6. Lepas L4
The Lepas L4, as far as we understand, was designed in-house, with the Lepas brand focusing on 'Leopard-Inspired' styling. This was evident at the global launch event we attended in China. The L4 follows typical Chery design cues, such as large front grilles, slim headlights, and interiors that focus on the infotainment screen and minimalism.
7. Citroen Basalt
The Basalt was designed internally by the Stellantis Design Team, and they had fun with it, as evidenced by the coupe-like design and high ground clearance.
8. Omoda C5
Omoda's C5 was designed by a team led by Gao Xinhua at Chery, built around 'Art In Motion' and what I'd describe as jewellery-on-wheels. The updated C5, though, exemplifies that more, and I personally quite like the new C5's look.
9. Changan Uni-S
Changan's internal team designed the Uni-S, which has the bold hallmarks of an SUV and separates itself a bit from the other available Changan models in South Africa.
10. Suzuki Jimny
Originally based on the Willys Jeep design, the Jimny has kept this aesthetic going as a purpose-built go-anywhere vehicle. A team led by Hiroyuki Yonezawa designed this generation.
