South Africans have slowly started adopting NEVs (New Energy Vehicles), with products such as the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid and indeed, the Haval H6 HEV having secured solid sales figures since being introduced. With this in mind, let's have a look at the HEV version of the smaller Jolion from Haval and see whether it appears to have what it takes to find success in South Africa.

Powertrain
One of the biggest downsides of the Jolion, when we tested the model here at AutoTrader, was its high fuel consumption, however, the HEV version of the Jolion appears to have a solution to this issue. You see, the HEV, being a series-parallel hybrid features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that works in tandem with an electric motor with a small 1.6kWh battery pack.
The system works with the brand's so-called "Direct Hybrid Transmission" system and produces a combined output of 140kW and 375Nm of torque, however, the two power sources can provide propulsion independent of one another. The purported benefits of this are improved performance and better fuel consumption, which on paper, appears to be significantly better than the internal combustion engine-powered models (ICE), with 0-100km/h coming up in under 9.0 seconds and a claimed fuel consumption figure of 5.0L/100km.
