With long time favourites such as the Figo and Fiesta soon to be relegated to the annals of history, we decide to take a look at what Ford will continue to offer and which of their models is the most driver-friendly option for a newbie license holder.
Ford EcoSport
This is Ford's entry into their small SUV/Crossover market and is a solid little number. With generous boot space, ample legroom and more than sufficient tech and convenience is a firm favourite, currently, of small families across the country. Rumour has it though that the EcoSport may just be following the Figo and Fiesta to the retirement village and could be replaced by the Ford Puma.
Ford Kuga
Burning jokes aside, the Kuga is a brilliant mid-size SUV that has found much favour with medium-sized families across the country. Driver assistance and safety system make the Kuga a pleasure to drive while passengers will enjoy a host of conveniences and technology and ample space for 5 adults and all their gear.
Ford Everest
Everest has been a solid choice for families with active lifestyles. Rugged and super capable off the beaten path, the Everest has seating for seven and just as many points of convenience to make any journey a breeze. A brand-new model is on the horizon and will be arriving soon with even more tech and striking new design.
Ford Ranger
The halo model for Ford in SA is without a doubt the Ranger and its many, many derivatives and special editions. The Ranger Wildtrak has proven to be the most successful out of the lot and is perfectly suited to the active South African family that enjoys the outdoors as well as tech and convenience.
Verdict
With Ford now concentrating all their efforts on SUVs and bakkies, and these vehicles being on the larger side, they may not be the best option for a new driver
