Amid news that the Fiesta has been removed from Ford's local line-up, with the Figo to follow suit, it would appear that the Blue Oval is turning its attention to crossovers, SUVs, bakkies and its sporty Mustang. Let's examine the brand's current line-up to see what it still has to offer.
Ford Figo
The Figo, at the time of writing, was on run-out, meaning that there will be no more brought into the country as production has ceased in India, spelling the end of the hatchback as a vehicle type for Ford South Africa.
Ford EcoSport
The EcoSport is more of what we should come to expect from the brand in future, with it committing to more crossover and SUV-type vehicles in place of hatchbacks. Despite being a heavily revised version of the model first introduced in 2012 and production ceasing in India, the EcoSport is still built in Brazil, Romania, Thailand, China, Russia and in Vietnam with Ford South Africa not announcing whether it will remain in the South African market going forward. Should it be discontinued, an option for the brand is the new Puma, a compact crossover sold in Australia and the United Kingdom since 2019.
Ford Ranger
We have been treated to many teasers of the new Ranger, including the hardcore Ranger Raptor variant, which are currently being built at the brand's Silverton facility in Pretoria. Word is that the new model will be released to the public and media alike in the second quarter of 2022, so at the time of writing, its arrival was imminent.
Ford Everest
Much like its Ranger sibling, the new Everest is also scheduled to be released in the coming months, with the brand going more upmarket with the model.
Ford Mustang
Ford's muscle car Mustang will remain a part of its local line-up in 2022, available exclusively with the sonorous Coyote V8 under the bonnet.
Ford Tourneo Custom
Despite the Tourneo being a bit long in the tooth, the uptick in people-mover sales locally means that it remains an important model for the American marque.
Ford Transit Custom
The Transit Custom will remain a part of the brand's portfolio, with panel van version catering to the commercial sector.
Ford Transit
The Transit has developed a good reputation in the global commercial automotive sphere and will still form part of the ford line-up going forward.
