C9 Maintenance costs

Launched in October 2024 on local shores, Omoda's new C9 was something of a revelation from the brand. It showed that they can indeed make full-spec luxury SUVs, not just entry-level and mid-spec offerings. The C9 is to be the flagship or halo model on offer from the brand, with the C5 being marketed at the more affordable end of the spectrum.

Warranty and Service plans

Omoda South Africa provides a 7-year and/or 200 000 km warranty (whichever occurs first)

This warranty applies to any new vehicle sold and delivered by an authorised Omoda dealership and warrants that the vehicle will be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. This warranty is subject to certain conditions and exclusions, which you will find in your owner's manual.

Omoda SA also warranties the vehicle's drivetrain for 7 years / 1 000 000km (for the first owner and whichever occurs first) but is also subject to the conditions and exclusions you will find in your owner's manual.

Customers also receive a 7-year / 100 000 km service plan with 15 000km service intervals.

Cost of ownership

Omoda quotes between R4 000 and R4 500 for a minor service (approximately) and roughly R7 500 to R8 800 for the major services at 120 000 km. It will be worth checking with your Omoda dealership, as the dealerships' franchise nature will result in slightly different pricing.

Another factor to consider is fuel costs. The new C9 has a 65-litre fuel tank, real-world consumption figures of 10.0 L/100km, and a cost of roughly R20.05 a litre. At a cost of R1 300, you should return around 600km on a tank.

Verdict

Omoda, as part of the Chery group, has committed to its presence in the country and claims a decent stock holding of critical parts. Service costs are on par with industry standards. Still, the current sparse nature of their outlets countrywide may make parts availability a little on the tough side, so consider this along with the availability of aftermarket fitment.
