How to replace the car battery on a Honda BR-V

With most modern cars having high levels of tech features that require a constant power supply, manufacturers have forgone older lead-acid batteries and have included newer battery technology into their production cars. These batteries have increased lifespans that exceed 3-5 years, so the first owners should never need to replace their batteries in the first few years.

If you are a second or third owner, though, you may need to replace the vehicle battery, and you can save yourself the labour charge at a garage by taking on the task yourself. It's a rather straightforward procedure, and we can show you how it's done with minimal effort and tools.

You will need:

  • 10mm wrench
  • 13mm socket + extension and driver

Let's get it done

 

1. Open the bonnet

2. Locate the battery

3. Use the 10mm wrench to remove the negative battery terminal

4. Use the 10mm wrench to remove the positive terminal

5. Use the 13mm socket to remove the battery hold-down bracket

6. Remove the battery

 

7. Install new battery

 

8. Assemble in reverse order
