How to replace the car battery on a GWM Steed 5

The GWM Steed is currently the king of cheap workhorse bakkies in SA. We show you how to easily replace the battery in a few simple steps.

GWM range of Steed bakkies have proven themselves to be die hard workhorse. Even the best workhorses out there need ongoing maintenance and one of these tasks is replacing the vehicles battery. You can save yourself a trip to your local battery shop and replace yours right at home.

We are going to show you how to do it in a few easy steps with just a few tools and some elbow grease.

You will need:

  • New battery
  • 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, wrenches (depending on year model)

 

Let's get started!

1.Open the bonnet.

 

 
 
 
2. Using the selection of wrenches, undo and remove the negative battery terminal.
 
 
 
 
3. Undo and remove positive battery terminal.
 
 
 
 
4. Loosen and back off the retaining nuts on the bracket holding the battery in place.
 
 
 
 
5. Remove the hold down bracket.
 
 
6. Remove battery and install the new one.
 

 

7. Install bracket bolts, tighten down the bracket and replace terminals, positive terminal first.
