6 GWM Steed accessories you didn’t know you needed

GWM has a very solid reputation in South Africa, having been one of the trusted Chinese brands that entered the market here some 12 years ago. The popular range of Steed pick-ups is well catered for in the aftermarket accessory business.
GWM pick-ups have carved a good reputation for reliability in South Africa. The brand arrived here in 2007 and sales were excellent, thanks to very affordable pricing. This has held true despite some uncertainty about the brand’s future here a few years ago. However in 2014 GWM announced an extended range of GWM products here. Now, under Haval ownership since 2016, the Great Wall Motors range is once again catered for by a strong network of dealerships. The Steed pick-up range has been the GWM mainstay range since GWM first arrived here. And in keeping with bakkie culture all over the country, there has been a strong demand for accessories for this rugged, well-priced workhorse.
Here’s a list of our top five accessories for the GWM Steed 5 range
1. Beekman canopy: Beekman has an excellent reputation for making high-quality fibreglass canopies in this country. The Krugersdorp company’s canopy comes in taller high-line and sleeker low-line models, and the workmanship is top quality. The canopies also come with optional roof-rails.
2. Sycor Nudge Bar:Sycor produces a quality range of stainless steel accessories for pick-ups world-wide. These products are available in South Africa, and the nudge bar is particularly attractive because of its clean simple design.
3. Sycor Side Steps:Sycor uses the name “side steps” for its stainless steel bars mounted alongside the door sills of the GWM Steed 5. Some manufacturers also refer to these tubular step-up items as rock-sliders, as they have a dual purpose in helping people climb into the cabin, but also offering protection to the body when driving off road where rocks might damage the sills. These are available here online from Errol’s Tyres South Africa.
4. Running boards: These fit in the same place as rock sliders, but are more obviously orientated as a step-up into the cabin. They can be ordered from Auto Accessory Centre in South Africa. They are available in a matt aluminium finish, and also in black-coated form.
5. Tonneau cover in PVC:These can also be ordered from Auto Accessory Centre, and are track-mounted in aluminium runners.
6. Step-up toe bar combo:Auto Accessory Centre also offers a really solid tow bar with a double-tube step arrangement, handy for loading the bakkie, and of particularly rugged construction. It comes with a plug-in wiring harness and an aluminium step plate.
