New vs old GWM Steed 5: what are top 3 differences?

GWM entered the South African market over ten years ago and still going strong with their workhorses. The Steed has been known to be practical, great value and built for hard work. Since its facelift, this is where the new GWM Steed 5 Single Cab differs from the old.

 

1. Design

The facelifted GWM Steed 5 Single Cab is based on a rugged ladder-frame chassis and features a double-insulated load bin with several tie-down points. Opposed to the older models, all Steed 5 Single Cab facelift models now vaunt a more refined and polished look with the upgraded bigger grille. Additional features include remote control locking, radio and USB, two low tone speakers, electric windows, electrically adjustable side mirrors, and electric height adjustable headlamps. It is also equipped with comfort-boosting features such as air-conditioning and power steering as standard.

 

2. Power and Economy

The facelift Single Cab is powered by a 2.2-litre petrol engine that develops 74 kW of power and 180 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission and a combined-cycle fuel consumption figure of 9.9 L/ 100 kms. Even at entry level, it offers a comprehensive list of standard specification and has been designed to tackle challenges head-on.

 

3. Safety

Since workhorses like these spend a lot of time on the road, GWM has equipped the 2.2-litre petrol model with high-strength door anti-collision beams, electric height adjustable headlamps, remote control central locking, an engine immobilizer, and adjustable safety belts. Furthermore, all Steed 5 Single Cabs feature fog lamps to boost visibility during poor weather conditions.
