How to replace the car battery on a Ford Mustang

When the Ford Mustang was first released in 1964, it signaled the introduction of the pony muscle car. The two-door v8 sports coupe has gone through many iterations and now finds itself in its seventh generation with more technological advancements than ever.

Much of the new tech in these vehicles is heavily reliant on a solid power supply generated from the onboard 12v system and if the vehicle begins having issues with some features or fails to start on demand then the battery may need to be replaced.

Replacing a Mustang's battery is relatively easy and can be done with minimal tools, and we can show you how it's done.

You will need:

12mm wrench
10mm socket + extension and driver

Let's get it done

1. Open the bonnet

2. Locate the battery underneath the plastic cover on the passenger side

3. Use the 12mm wrench to remove the negative battery terminal

4. Use the 12mm wrench to remove the positive terminal

5. Use the 10mm socket to remove the battery hold-down bracket

7. Remove the old battery

8. Install new battery

9. Assemble in reverse order
