Car Ownership

The Ford Mustang is a special machine. Holding the accolade for the best-selling sports car in the world, the Ford Mustang remains a serious contender and even holds more than 80% of the segment market share locally. The current and sixth-generation Ford Mustang was the first global model to be produced in right-hand drive and after having been starved for decades, South Africans jumped at the opportunity to get their very own slice of Americana.

But you already know this, you're already the proud owner of a Pony Car. If by any chance you've tired of the look and feel of your 'Stang, you have the option to add some tasty tidbits to it, boosting the power, improving the handling and looks, and of course, making it sound even better than it already sounds.

Ford Performance Centre is one of several firms in South Africa that are backed by Ford Motor Company South Africa. This means that you know you're getting quality parts and fitment that will not void your warranty or service plan. With a branch in Centurion and Pietermaritzburg, Performance Centre offers customers the opportunity to customise their Mustang the way they would like.

Alternatives include Shelby South Africa.

1. Roush V8 Cold Air Intake

The bellowing sound of a V8 doesn't only emanate from the exhaust tips. As the engine gulps in air, you will hear an induction roar - or at least you would if you were to fit a Roush Cold Air Intake for your V8. This system helps guide cooler air into the intake and improves the engine's ability to breathe thanks to the large surface area of the conical filer. Open up your V8's breathing capabilities and free a few ponies in the process.

2. Roush V8 Quad Tip Active Exhaust

Speaking of noise... what's the point of getting all that fresh air into the engine if you can't get it out? The basic principles state that you need to get it in and out as fast as possible to make the most power. You can do this with an active exhaust from Roush. Not only will it help improve the airflow out of the engine, but it will sound epic too. Why? Because the active management system allows you to fine-tune the exhaust note so that you can get a truly unique sound.

3. Roush Supercharger

If the intake and exhaust are still not enough, you'd better buckle up for this next one. The Roush Supercharger kit will see an Eaton TVS R2300 Phase 1 system installed to boost your power to 670 hp and torque to 740 Nm. This system includes an intercooler and necessary software upgrades to make the most of the twin-impellor, four-lobe supercharger as it rams additional air into your engine for unrivalled performance.

4. Roush Rear Spoiler

Treat your Pony Car to a little cosmetic enhancement with a tasteful and subtle boot spoiler. Crafted from lightweight ABS plastic, this spoiler can either be left black or painted to match your vehicle's body colour. It will add just a touch of customisation without being over the top and unnecessary.

5. Ford Performance Street Springs

Two things have the ability to completely change the way a car looks, neither of them involves paint. Never underestimate the impact a good set of wheels can make and don't forget about the stance. Lowering your Mustang ever so slightly will have onlookers wondering why your Mustang looks so good. This Ford Performance spring kit will lower your Mustang by 1-inch, keeping it driveable and practical but improving the overall impression created.
