How to replace the car battery on a Citroen DS4

There are quite a few reasons as to why a vehicle battery could go flat or even die completely. But if you are working from home a lot more, be sure to go for a drive every now and again to ensure your battery gets charged. This is especially a good idea in the winter months as the low temperatures are not ideal for your vehicle battery.

If it is too late already, and you need to find out how to get the old battery out and a new one in, you are at the right place.

 

What you will need

Glove to protect your hands from possible leaks.

Socket wrench with an extender attachment and a 10mm socket bit.

Flat screwdriver

 

Steps

Step 1: Once you open the bonnet, locate the battery and lift the little plastic flap which indicates positive (+).

Step 2: Once you have disconnected the positive pole, proceed to remove the plastic cover situated over the wiring harness. Note that there are clips on both the left and right, keeping it in place.

Step 3: Now that you have exposed the wires, use the flat screwdriver to press the clips further and release the wiring unit. Carefully move it to the right to give yourself space.

Step 4: You can now remove the plastic battery cover. Make sure to not force the securing clips or catch them on the wires.

Step 5: Using the socket wrench with the extender attachment and 10mm bit, to loosen the negative (-) pole.

Step 6: Once it is loosened, disconnect the wire and carefully stow it to the left.

Step 7: At the base of the battery to the left, you will notice a securing plate held in place by a 10mm screw. Use the socket wrench with the extender attachment and 10mm bit to loosen the screw and remove the plate.

Step 8: Now that everything is disconnected and out of the way, you can proceed to lift the battery out of the vehicle. Take care to not hook it on to any of the wires.

Step 9: Insert the new battery and reverse the above steps to secure the new battery into place.
