How to replace a headlight bulb on a used Citroen C1

The C1 may no longer be on sale in South Africa but that doesn't mean they are all gone. Changing out your C1's headlight bulbs needs to be done and we can show you how!

French Connection

You have a Citroen C1 that automatically makes you an adventurous type! Changing headlight bulbs on your C1 should be a piece of cake compared owning an early model french auto.

Replacing the headlight bulbs on your C1 does require a few speciality tools and some daring-do, but changing them yourself can save you a fortune at a mechanic who may not like French cars.

You will need:

• Replacement bulbs
• Panel clip removal tool
• Small flat head screwdriver
• 10mmm socket + extension + driver

Let's get started!

1. Using the small flat head screwdriver, remove the black panel clips that hold the front bumper in place. There should be three to four along the top section by the radiator and two on each side in the wheel arches.
2. Using the panel removal tool pull the panel clip surrounds out 
3. Using the 10mm socket remove all the bolts that hold down the bumper.
4. Gently pull the bumper forward to expose the side of the headlight cluster.
5. Using the 10mm socket remove the bolts, top and bottom, as well as along the side, that are holding in the light assembly
6. Unplug the wiring harness from the assembly
7. Gently twist the bulb holder to remove from the light housing.
8. Replace the bulb making sure the rubber o-ring gasket isn't damaged.
9. Reassemble in reverse order.

PRO TIP: DO NOT touch the glass of the bulbs as it may transfer dirt from your fingers that will burn into place.

It may seem daunting at first but this a cinch to do once you know how and should be no problem for an adventurous spirit such as yourself.
