The MINI Convertible has seen many new developments added since its global debut in 2005. The latest iterations, while retaining the signature MINI design cues, offers not only modern looks but also modern tech such as LED headlamps. Those we recommend you take to a MINI dealership if you are experiencing issues.
However, owners of MINI's produced between 2014 and 2018 can change out their halogen lamps at home without needing any special tools. We have created a quick step-by-step guide to show you just how easy it really is.
What you need
- Replacement bulb
- Soft cloth
Procedure
Step 1: Proceed to open the bonnet with the release lever in the driver-side footwell. Pull the lever twice.
Step 2: Open the bonnet and let us start on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Step 3: Behind the headlamp housing is a plastic cap. Twist the cap counterclockwise to access the inside of the headlamp.
Step 4: Locate the electrical connection point to the lightbulb and gently remove it. Do not pull on the wires, only on the connector.
Step 5: Locate the securing pin and press towards the front of the car and off to the left to undo.
Step 6: Once the securing pin is out of the way, you can now proceed to take out the lightbulb.
Step 7: To install the new lightbulb be sure to align the locating pins with the cavities in the headlamp cluster.
Step 8: Secure the bulb into place with the retaining pin and reconnect the electrical connecter.
Step 9: You can now proceed to test the new lamp and close the plastic cap.
Step 10: Proceed to follow steps 3 through 9 on the driver side of the vehicle.
Step 11: Clean your headlamps with the soft cloth and you are done.
*Avoid touching the glass on the new lightbulbs as your fingers have natural oil which could cause it to overheat and fail.
