5 Extras you should get for a used MINI Convertible
When ordering a new MINI Convertible, there’s an options list as long as your arm awaiting at the dealership. But, even when buying a used MINI, there’s still a whole bunch of add-ons to improve the ownership experience and preserve your car’s value. We take a look at 5 of the best extras for a used MINI Convertible.
While it’s true that some options can realistically only be fitted at the factory (a uniquely-coloured folding roof or climate control, for instance), there are plenty of other goodies available for used MINIs as well. The accessories we selected for this list are all available from local MINI dealers, and can be used without help from the dealership’s technicians.

1. Emergency Bag (R 788)
Neatly packaged inside this bag, you’ll find two high-visibility jackets, a warning triangle, and a fully-equipped first-aid kit. All these items will better prepare you for emergencies, and enable you to lend roadside assistance as needed. And, because storage space in a MINI Convertible is limited, the way it stows away into a compact package is a big bonus.
2. Tyre Mobility Set (R 3 045)
This item is pretty crucial in these days of low-profile tyres (as fitted to all MINIs), given the condition of many roads they have to traverse on a regular basis. The contents of this neat little box won’t help you if hitting a pothole damages the tyre’s sidewall, but it will help out with slow leaks and small tread punctures. Included in this kit is a small compressor to re-inflate the tyre, tyre sealant to plug small holes, various valve adapters (including bicycle valves), and work gloves to protect your hands.
3. Fitted Luggage Compartment Mat (from R 1 026)
This protective mat is made of rubber, and shaped to accurately follow the outline of your MINI Convertible’s boot floor. It has a slightly raised lip to keep spilled liquids from damaging the boot trim, and its texture will help prevent loose items sliding about in normal driving. And, when you eventually sell your car, the carpet underneath will be as new, getting you a few extra bucks on resale value.
4. Convertible Care Kit (R 512)
Looking after a folding soft top is a bit different to looking after a normal metal- or glass roof. Keeping the material supple is imperative, else it will start deteriorating, cracking or even splitting open with use. This kit contains the cleaning agent you need to use instead of normal carwash detergent, the “moisturiser” you need to apply to the roof after washing, and an 11-litre bucket to mix the cleaning fluid.
5. Car Cover (R 2 858)
The other important thing for soft-top preservation is to keep it out of the elements as far as possible. Wind, rain, and most importantly, sunlight can really do a number on any synthetic material, and the MINI Convertible’s roof is no exception. This cute-looking cover fits securely over your MINI to prevent this, and even has anti-theft protection and zip access to the passenger compartment built in.
