Under Pressure

Manufacturers go to some trouble to make sure their cars are driven using the correct tyre pressures. Here’s our quick guide to tyre pressures on the latest Ford Fiesta range. Ford’s latest Fiesta range was introduced just on a year ago and it has proven a steady seller in the R270 000-plus segment of the small hatchback market. There are just five models available.

The Fiesta is a very up-to-date car, fitted with the latest version of Ford’s SYNC3 communications and entertainment system, coming with a 6.5-inch screen in the Trend model and a tablet-inspired 8-inch colour touch screen in the upper-level Titanium models.

Engine and transmission options

The Fiesta comes with two versions of the 1,0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost engine that continues to win “best engine” accolades in its size division. The Trend models in the Fiesta range use the 74 kW version, while the Titanium model uses the 92 kW version. There is also a 1.5-litre diesel model, known as the Fiesta 1.5 TDCI Trend. The petrol-engined cars come with a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearboxes. The diesel, only available in Trend trim, comes with a six-speed manual, and no automatic transmission option.

Wheel and tyre sizes

The Trend models in the Fiesta range use a 16-inch alloy rim, with 195/55 R16 tyres fitted. The Titanium models use the sexier 17-inch alloy wheel with a more interesting spoke design. These 17-inch wheels are fitted with 205/45 R17 tyres.

All Fiesta models carry a 14-inch steel spare wheel. The larger profile tyre size gives this smaller spare wheel the same rolling circumference as the 16-inch and 17-inch alloys with their lower-profile tyres.

Manufacturer’s tyre pressures for your specific Fiesta are detailed on a sticker located in the door jam of the front passenger door.

Recommended tyre pressures for the current generation Ford Fiesta

Full load 2,3 bar 2,6 bar
205/45 R17 Light load 2,3 bar 1,8 bar
  Full load 2,3bar 2,6 bar

The manufacturer recommends a 3,2 bar pressure for the 175/65 R14 spare used in all Fiesta models.
