How do I find out how much my Ford EcoSport is worth?

The first step is to carry out a thorough market analysis - and while this may sound difficult, we can assure you, it isn't. Thanks to our free car valuation tool based on the model, year, and mileage of your Ford EcoSpot, we can help you find the true value of it.

Alternatively, visiting the listings of similar listings on AutoTrader can give you a ballpark figure of what your EcoSport's worth. Just take a look what similar models are selling for - but keep in mind that the listings at the dealerships are retail price, not trade-in value/book value. This means they've already factored in all of their costs including profit.

Last of the new EcoSports - The EcoSport Active was based on the popular mid-range EcoSport Trend 1.0 EcoBoost Automatic. It was released in May 2022.

What affects the value of your Ford EcoSport?

The value of your Ford EcoSport is influenced by a number of factors, such as age, number of kilometres, and general condition of the car. It goes without saying that low-mileage, well-maintained EcoSport models will be more expensive to buy than ones in poor shape, with high mileage. (Find out what mileage is good for a used car in SA)

The dynamics of supply and demand in the used car market are also very important. The value of your EcoSport will probably increase if there is a high demand for them, but since the segment is so cutthroat, and there are so many of them around, you're likely to score a good deal when buying, but not so much when selling. But, this is not set in stone. It is also very derivative-specific.

For example, some of the most popular variants are the 1.5-litre Ambiente model and the 1.5-litre Titanium model.

Interestingly, the 1.0T Trend model was one of the worst performers, sales wise. It is also the cheapest, so it may become more popular as cash-strapped buyers are looking for something inexpensive on the used-car market.

The EcoSport Black was another special edition model based on the 1.5 Ambiente auto. Read my review on it here.

Do Ford EcoSports hold their value?

Ford EcoSports are renowned for their inexpensive parts, decent fuel efficiency, and reasonable parts and servicing costs in the South African market. They are popular among city dwellers due to their compact size and sidewalk-climbing capabilities. While depreciation is inevitable for any car, the EcoSport's strong market presence and high demand help it retain a significant portion of its original value over time. Yet again, it matters which model you're trying to sell and what market trends dictate.

On average, the Ford EcoSport loses around 20-25% of its value in the first year. The depreciation then slows to around 15-20% in the second year and 10-15% in the third year.

Ford EcoSports tend to retain around 40-50% of their original value after 3-4 years. This is higher than the industry average, indicating that they maintain strong residual values.

How to increase the value of your Ford EcoSport

Boosting the value of your Ford EcoSport involves regular maintenance and care. Regular servicing, keeping the mileage low, and ensuring the vehicle is clean and free from damage can significantly enhance its value. Additionally, keeping a complete service history can provide potential buyers with confidence in the vehicle's condition. Without the FSH or full service history, you can forget about getting what your car is worth.

If your EcoSport is full of dents and dings, have it repaired - but don't spend too much as you may not necessarily get your money back. A good, deep clean or valet, however, can go a long way in making your car look like a value buy.

The Black package includes a sexy black roof but those 'eyebrows' on the bonnet are not my favourite.

Seen here is another EcoSport Black model.

I used the AutoTrader website today (25 July 2023) and found that most EcoSport models are the Ambiente and Titanium models. You can also use the drop-down menu to search for your specific model to get an idea of how much they are selling for.

Bear in mind that it's also province-specific. We noticed that cars in the Western Cape sometimes sell for much higher prices than Gauteng, for example, while the Eastern Cape's prices have a tendency to be lower, along with the Free State.
