How to replace the car battery on a Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta has been a perennial favourite amongst young new car buyers for decades. That means that there is a slew of them on SA's roads. Due to the large numbers of these cars being available, the second-hand market is densely populated by these models.

Your Fiesta may be in need of a new battery if you are having trouble starting or running electrics properly and the easy fix is to replace your old tired unit.

You will need:

 

  • New replacement battery for your model (correct amperage)
  • Socket set and wrench set (10mm - 14mm, depending on year model)

 

Let's get started!

 

1. Begin by opening the bonnet

 

2. Locate the battery, it should be just above the air filter housing. 

 

3. Remove the negative terminal using the appropriate size wrench.

 

4. Remove the positive terminal using the appropriate size wrench.

 

5. Use the socket wrench and the correct size socket to remove the hold-down bolts that clamp into the battery tray.

 

6. Exchange battery and reassemble in reverse order.

 

7. Start the car to make sure everything is working correctly.
