4 Mercedes-AMG SLK accessories you didn’t know you needed.

We list the top four accessories that were made available for the Mercedes-AMG SLK.

Car Ownership

The last Mercedes-AMG SLK to go on sale locally was the 2015 SLK 55 AMG. The sports convertible comes fitted with a 5.5-litre, naturally-aspirated V8 petrol engine which in combination with the 7-speed Tiptronic transmission, sends 310 kW and 540 Nm of torque to the rear wheels. This is enough to propel the German sportscar to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Needless to say, the SLK 55 AMG will not disappoint when all you want is power and style. What about conveniences, well if it doesn't quite offer everything you need, here are four of our favourite accessories. While these might not be available through the original channels as the vehicle is no longer on sale, a quick internet search might just pop out a few used options from reputable suppliers.

1. Wheels

One way to instantly updated the looks of your vehicle is certainly a new set of wheels. While you might not want to fit non-original wheels to your SLK, luckily the manufacturer thought of that and made quite the variety. If you are considering a used set, be sure that they do not exceed the 18-inch diameter. Also, take care to not purchase wheels that are warped or bent as this could greatly affect the drive quality and even compromise safety.

2. Navigation

If for any reason you bought an SLK 55 AMG with the standard Audio 20 infotainment system and lack navigation, do not despair. Garmin developed its Map Pilot programme for this exact vehicle too. Merely buying the SD card installed with the programme and installing it to your Audio 20 radio will give you access to the navigation system with 3D map views.

3. Phone holder

It is easy to just stow your phone in the centre storage console before you set off in your Mercedes-AMG. However, it could be sliding around and knocking about as you drive along, especially when you are putting the dynamic handling to the test. The phone cradle takes care of exactly that, keep your phone from moving about and still inside the centre console so it remains out of sight and safe.

4. Battery charger

While some owners might still be using their SLK 55 AMG daily, others might reserve it for the weekends or special occasions. If you are part of the latter, you might find that the battery could run down without regular use. To mitigate this problem is a battery charger which you can connect the battery to and just leave it. The unit checks, charges and revives your battery even if it’s totally flat and has a trickle option to keep the battery full even over longer periods.
