New battery
There are very few vehicles that come close the performance and luxury that you get from a GLS model Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle is packed with technology and custom features that make life so much sweeter, but they do place a lot of strain on the electrical system. This is solved by having two batteries, one for starting and running the engine and another for ancillary features.

Battery technology has come a long way and these particular batteries have an exponentially longer life span than their original counterparts but at some point you will need to replace these batteries, and we can show you how it's done.
You will need:
- A new battery - check your owners manual for the correct model for your GL
- 10mm socket
- 13mm socket
- Socket wrench and extension
- Pry bar or large, flat screwdriver
- Craft knife or box cutter
Let's get it done
1. The battery is located under the driver's seat. Slide the seat all the way forward to access it.
2. Entering from the back door, use the pry bar or screwdriver, pry off the cover that rests under the seat.
3. If your battery hasn't been replaced before, you will need to make a small cut in the carpet in the back, right corner to allow for it to be lifted.
4. The now visible ducting is secured with a plastic rivet in the back, right corner. Use the pry bar or screwdriver to pry this loose. Remove the ducting by pulling it towards you.
5. Lift the plastic battery cover off of the battery and remove it.
6. Locate the retaining bracket on the side nearest to you. Use the 13mm socket with an extension to remove this bracket.
7. Remove the negative terminal (Black / NEG / -) with the 10mm socket.
8. Remove the positive terminal (Red / POS / -) with the 10mm socket.
9. Remove the battery by lifting and pulling it towards you.
10. Reverse the process when installing your new battery.
Note that you will need to enter in your radio code and any preset radio stations and all vehicle settings will be reset to default. To avoid this from happening, use a battery saver before starting.
