Diesel Engine

The diesel engine available for the 3008 is a 2.0-litre HDi that’s also offered with the 6-speed EAT6 automatic gearbox. It puts out maximum power of 110 kW and peak torque of 370 Nm. Diesel engines provide a great mix of performance and fuel economy and is a sensible option if you want some extra grunt, particularly for towing.

Fuel                                         Diesel

Transmission                           6-Speed Automatic

Maximum Torque                   370 Nm @ 2 000 rpm

Combined Drive Cycle             5.0 L/100 km

CO2 Emissions                        136 g/km

While on paper the diesel engine has more torque and lower fuel consumption, it’s important to keep in mind that actual on-road fuel consumption figures will vary according to traffic conditions, the driver’s foot, vehicle conditions and the load.

In Ané Theron’s article Which Peugeot 3008 should I buy: diesel or petrol? she singles out the petrol engine as the sensible choice. However, at the end of the day, it comes down to your preference. Petrol engines do well for shorter trips and city driving while diesel engine’s efficiency will shine on long-distance trips. Many buyers after an SUV do usually want a diesel engine, but Theron mentions that diesel quality in SA is of poor quality so there are several things to consider when deciding between the two engines.
