The Volvo XC40 is the small SUV that's big on innovation. With striking good-looks and class-leading technology, it's a solid and responsible choice for the style-conscious individual. We're particularly fond of the compact SUV and rather enjoyed the time that we spent with it. It ticks so many boxes, from the handling to the comfort, the convenience and the safety. There's not much bad to say about the Volvo XC40 so we thought we'd look at the three things that we think you should know about it.

1. Your own co-pilot.
Every Volvo XC40, no matter what trim level you choose, is fitted with City Safety. As part of the Intellisafe safety system, City Safety monitors the surrounding areas, constantly scanning for obstacles such as pedestrians, cyclists and animals. The system will warn you if things are about to get too close for comfort and if you don't react, the car will automatically brake to prevent an incident or at least minimise the damage caused. City Safety is only one of the multitude of safety systems that come standard with the Volvo XC40.
2. It's not that small.
The interior of the XC40 is littered with storage compartments and bins that have been cleverly shaped to accommodate your daily accoutrements. The door bins have enough space for handbags and laptops while the centre armrest is big enough for a full-size tissue box. Even the driver's seat has a storage compartment under it!
The hands-free, automatic tailgate makes way to present you with a generous 479-litres of cargo space (measured to the top of the rear backrests) which means that it has one of the largest load compartments in its class.
3. It sounds amazing!
We're not talking about the engine here as you'll hardly hear it. We're referring to the amazing sound reproduction from the Harman Kardon Premium Sound audio system. With a 600 W digital amplifier, 13-speakers, a subwoofer and high-tech digital sound processing, the XC40 becomes a concert on wheels. You get to choose whether you want your hair blown back by the stadium approach or if you want the crystal clarity of a studio, thanks to the Dirac Unison Tuning which optimises speaker performance.
