1.New engine line-up

Locally the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet is offered in C200 and C300 guise, however, both feature the German manufacturer's 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol motor. While both are similar in construction, the engine in the C300 offers 190 kW and 370 Nm of torque, 40 kW and 70 Nm more than the C200 variant. Both vehicles are fitted with the 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.

Counterintuitively the C300 promises to sip only 6.9 L / 100 km while Mercedes-Benz claims the C200 have an average fuel consumption of 7.4 L / 100 km. The C300 also beats its sibling in a sprint to 100 km/h, completing it in 6.2 seconds as opposed to the 7.5 seconds in the C200. The C200 has a top speed of 238 km/h while the C300 will continue to 250 km/h.

2. Tech upgrade

With the facelift model, Mercedes-Benz incorporated a few technology upgrades to benefit both the driver and the rest of the vehicle occupants. In front of the driver features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster display while centrally a larger 1.25-inch infotainment display features. The driver also benefits from an updated multifunction steering wheel now with touch-control buttons.

Not only is the tech options broader, but Mercedes-Benz also widened its trim options to include items such as new open-pore trim elements amongst other items. Also added to the list is a new sound system option featuring nine loudspeakers which has a combined output of 225 W. This optional system feature between the standard sound system and the optionally available Burmester surround sound system.

3. Driving dynamics

The C-Class Cabriolet not only sees stylistic and infotainment upgrades, but customers can also opt for the Dynamic Body Control system. This system allows the driver to adjust the suspension characteristics with a touch of a button. The default setting is Comfort and softens the suspension to absorb most of the bumps and dips on an uneven road surface.

The driver can also select Sport and Sport+ which will stiffen the suspension and provide more accuracy in the steering as well as reduce unwanted body roll in the sharp turns. The Sports Direct-Steer system is fitted in conjunction with the Dynamic Body Control option to control the turning ratios depending on the vehicle speed to result in a comfortable yet agile steering return.
