Top 3 things you need to know about the Hyundai Atos

If you're keen on a city slicker that's not just easy on the pocket but high on quality as well, the all-new Hyundai Atos is the little car to test drive first. Here what you need to know about it.

Buying a Car

1. The only "budget" thing about it, is its price tag of R 162 900

Step inside the new Atos and prepare to be impressed. If you take a good look (and feel) at the interior layout, dashboard, instrument cluster, switchgear, seven-inch touchscreen and overall build quality, you'll realise that Hyundai is serious about attracting entry-level car buyers who are simply not satisfied with the low-end finishes of many inexpensive cars. Competition in this segment has become rather tough, and manufacturers need to bring their A-game if they plan on making money - and that's exactly what the Koreans did.

The Atos rides on the all-new K1 platform that allows for a more spacious cabin, less noise while you drive, and better handling due to a stiffer body. Its 1.1-litre (1086 cc) engine offers 50kW of power. Fuel consumption is a fantastic 5.7 litres per 100km, which means you'll get 600 plus kilometres from one 35-litre tank.

2. It is packed with features

The Atos is highly ergonomic and will suit young and old. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features that also serve the purpose of increased safety, since you won't need to fumble with the screen while you drive. The voice control button on the steering wheel will enable your assistant, Siri or Alexa, to read out Whatsapp messages, tune in to Spotify, or to activate your favourite route map app, among other functions, depending on what applications you have on your smartphone.

Other standard features include central locking, electric front windows, Bluetooth, a USB port, partial-vinyl seats, ISOFIX child seat anchorage points on the rears seats, ABS, EBD, two airbags, and manual air-conditioning. The boot is a practical 235 litres big and the rear seat can be folded down to make more room.

3. It is, quite literally, a winner!

The Hyundai Atos won the Urban Car Category in this year's AutoTrader South African Car of the Year competition. Consumers in this segment are interested in city cars that are easy to drive and to park, and that offer exceptional value for money. The Atos delivers on all these fronts and was crowned the winner as a result.

The Atos is also rated highly by other prominent South African motoring platforms and won the Budget Car Category in Car Magazine's Top 12 Best Buys 2020 awards in March this year.

It also wins the prize for the smallest car with the longest warranty in SA - 7 years, to be exact. A 1-year service plan is included in the deal as well.
