The first-generation Peugeot 3008 was first unveiled to the public in 2008 and officially launched locally in 2010. Throughout its lifecycle, the French model received a facelift which saw new styling applied to both the exterior and interior of the vehicle. Locally the model was offered in comfort, active, executive, premium and allure guises and with a choice of diesel and petrol engines.

The second and current-generation Peugeot 3008 was first announced during 2016 after which the first production models made its way to local shores during 2017. While the new model is also offered inactive and allure trim levels, a new specification also features namely GT Line. All three variants come fitted with the same turbocharged petrol motor.
Exterior
Although both vehicles compete within the same segment, there are distinct styling differences. While the used model offers a more rounded design with a few sharper styling elements found in the headlamps and taillamps, the new model incorporates a more squarish design from the offset.
The new model incorporates a variety of additional chrome and silver garnishings around the vehicle such as the under guard upfront to the chrome inserts on the doors and around the windows. Also featuring upfront is a more aggressive three-dimensional grille with the lion emblem incorporated instead of separately fitted. The French automaker also opted for larger wheels with the entry-level model fitted with 17-inch options while the flagship model gets 19-inch alloy wheels.
Interior
The outgoing 3008 provided a contemporary and comfortable interior, however, simple when compared with the new model. One of the signature items on the interior of the first-generation 3008 was the fight jet-like buttons which control the information displays as well as the driver-assist system and central locking. This theme was carried through to the new offering, however, more resembles piano keys.
Similar to the exterior of the vehicles, the new model features a sharper and more linear interior design theme as opposed to the rounded styling on the used offering. Another key difference is the i-Cockpit system which takes shape as an 8.0-inch touchscreen fitted centrally and a 12.3-inch screen executing the duties of the instrument cluster. The advance system allows for MirrorLink, Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity as opposed to just Bluetooth as in the previous model.
Powertrain
As alluded to earlier, the entire range of the new models is serviced by a 1.6-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol motor which results in all the models delivering 121 kW and 240 Nm of torque. The power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission, the same configuration as found in the used models, however, is a different story.
The earlier model came with the option of either a 1.6-litre, naturally aspirated, 4-cylinder petrol unit which develops 88 kW and 160 Nm, a 1.6-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol motor providing for 115 kW and 240 Nm or a 2.0-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder diesel engine which delivers 120 kW and 340 Nm of torque.
