How reliable is the Volkswagen Golf 7?

We draw on international consumer surveys to find out just how reliable the Volkswagen Golf is.

Buying a Car

The Volkswagen Golf is one of the most popular cars globally with local sales trends mirroring that statement. It offers a good balance between practicality, style and sportiness, especially with the GTI derivatives. While at the time of writing this article, customers are only able to get their hands on the GTI derivative of the Golf 8, the Golf 7 range offered a variety of solutions with a diverse engine lineup.

As the entire Golf 8 range is not available locally at this time, we will be drawing on international customer surveys to find out just how reliable the Golf 7 range really is, more specifically, we will be focussing on the 2019 model year. The information used in this article was sourced from customer surveys completed by J.D. Power which can be visited here.

Quality & Reliability

While the 2019 Golf 7 range scores an impressive 78 out of a possible 100 points for a variety of categories including quality and reliability, driving experience, resale and dealership experience. It does score slightly higher when we focus on the quality and reliability of the model alone.

The quality and reliability are measured by the level of defects, malfunctions and design flaws found in areas ranging from the engine to the infotainment system. In this regard, the Golf 7 managed to accrue 80 points out of a possible 100 in the J.D. Power customer survey, which is a very good result.

Verdict

For a vehicle to score 80 out of 100 for quality and reliability in a customer survey is a difficult feat as the feedback comes from owners and not from people that have only driven the vehicle for a week or month. Thus it is safe to say that the 2019 model year Volkswagen Golf can be considered a reliable car.
