The Proton X50 prides itself on having 'affordable luxury' for the masses. The X50 is a global competitor thanks to Proton going back to the drawing board, seeking tech and engineering know-how from Geely Group which it's a shareholder in. The Proton X50 has a whole host of luxury items including a nifty voice command-operated infotainment system. The voice command prompt being 'Hi Proton' which can operate a myriad of features like opening windows and the like. Depending on which variant you go with, you can have either an 8-inch touchscreen or a 10.25-inch screen and with the Executive and Premium variants, you can have additional voice command functions. We did an infotainment comparison with the Proton X50 versus its competition here.

How does one connect their iPhone though?

Currently, at the time of posting this article, you can connect your Apple iPhone to your Proton X50 via Bluetooth for music and calls but at the moment there's no Apple CarPlay functionality available. However, around April-May 2023, Proton South Africa will be providing a software update to enable Apple CarPlay functionality to both new X50 buyers as well as existing X50 owners. The Apple CarPlay connectivity will be wireless but you can also connect your phone via the USB Port with a good quality third-party USB cable or preferably an original Apple cable.

Connection should be a relatively simple affair by following the prompts on both the vehicle's infotainment screen and your device. If you're keen on buying an X50 after reading this, consider searching AutoTrader for the latest used and new Proton X50 offerings.
