Is the Lexus RX a good car?

Lexus has a good reputation for reliability. Add to this all the standard specifications included, and you can see why the Lexus RX is considered a good car.

Who is the Lexus RX a good car for?

The Lexus RX is a good car for a medium to a large family looking for the comfort and style associated with Lexus products.

Is the Lexus RX a good first car?

The Lexus RX is rather large and as a result, could pose a challenge to new drivers. However, the model comes with a host of standard driver-assist systems that will make it easier to get used to. If space is not the main reason for purchase but rather the utility, new drivers should consider the UX or even the NX models.

Is the Lexus RX a good family car?

Most certainly the Lexus RX is a good family car as it not only offers a comfortable and spacious cabin for five occupants but also 453-litres of luggage space. In addition to this, the occupants are kept safe by no less than 10 airbags amongst other safety systems.

Is there a Hybrid Lexus RX?

The flagship derivative in the Lexus RX range is indeed a hybrid model. The Japanese automaker combined the hybrid technology with a 3.5-litre, V6 petrol engine with the result being 230 kW and 335 + 139 electric Nm in torque. Lexus claims that even with these performance figures, the model is capable of an average fuel consumption figure of 5.7 L / 100 km.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewer's opinion

Wide it is though; the RX is not a small vehicle, but despite that, it's exceedingly easy to drive. The driver assistance systems such as lane tracking and adaptive cruise control make traffic and the open road a breeze. Forward visibility is good but rearward visibility lacks a little due to the broad C-pillars, inherent of the coupe-like styling. For reversing manoeuvres it's best to use a combination of the rearview mirrors and reverse camera to negotiate your path.

Interior

What is the Lexus RX like inside?

When you step inside the Lexus RX, you will notice the plush leather upholstery. Furthermore, the Japanese automaker has incorporated many soft-touch surfaces and textured materials for added comfort and luxury. While the driver can expect more traditional instrumentation in combination with a TFT screen, centrally the RX offers a large infotainment touch display, easily controlled from the central touchpad as well as from the multifunction steering wheel.

Style

Continuing on the interior, the model offers a strong horizontal design on the dashboard and facia and depending on the specification selected, contrasting materials are used on the seats and door trim. On the exterior, customers can expect very angular and sharp lines with deeply defined surfaces on the sides and rear. Upfront features the familiar Lexus grille flanked by blade-like headlamps.
