The most recent generation Toyota Aygo was introduced locally in 2015 and after a few brief years on sale, the Japanese automaker applied changes to the range including, introducing the X-Clusiv variant which replaced the X-Play silver. Towards the end of the product offering, Aygo was offered in four trim levels, the base, X-Play X-Clusiv and X-Cite derivatives.
All four variants were powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission, sending the power to the front wheels. The combination resulted in 53 kW and 93 Nm of torque, and although this won't be enough to press you against the seat all that much, claimed to return 4.3 L / 100 km on an average combined cycle while providing ample power.
While you cannot buy a new Toyota Aygo at the moment, if you own a used model or are currently looking at a used Toyota Aygo model on AutoTrader, you can still upgrade selected elements to give it that new car feel.
1. Facia trim
One area in which the Aygo excels is its, modern and funky design elements. You can further bolster this characteristic by replacing the current facia trim with one of the varieties of bright coloured options available. Not only are you able to swap out the centre facia trim but also the air vent surrounds, even the trim piece adorning the glove compartment.
2. Boot liner
With the compact cabin design, you are more likely to use the boot to store items on a regular basis. While the standard boot liner is ample for most objects, what if you want to transport items that could spill fluids or even dirt or grime. Toyota offers an optional rubber boot liner that snugly fit into the boot and makes cleanup after spills much easier.
3. Scuff plates
While traditionally scuff plates were created to protect the body paint from scratches as occupants climb in and out of the vehicle, these days it doubles as a stylish trim piece. Toyota offers customers a variety of scuff plate styles that will not only protect the vehicle but at the same time bolster the premium styling cues of the small hatchback offering.
4. Wheels
What about exterior styling? The Japanese automaker has created a variety of wheel designs that will fit the Aygo. Whether you are going for the young and vibey look or a more sporty feel, there is a design out there for you. The wheels are made from an alloy which not only makes the wheels light and more efficient but also strong.
5. Diffuser
To add a little more colour to your Aygo, you can always fit the aftermarket diffuser. Available in a variety of colour finishes, you can match the interior colour theme of your Aygo with the exterior or vice versa. These items are available with or without the reverse camera bezel so be sure to keep an eye out for that before ordering the part.
6. Roof colour
Why stop at just changing the colour of your diffuser if you can change the colour of the roof? The change in colour is done with a pre-cut sticker vinyl wrap, which means that in a few years time you can completely change the look and feel of your Aygo without having to repaint. Like with the other trim pieces, this wrap is available in a variety of vibrant colours as well as a carbon fibre pattern for a sportier look.
7. Fog lamp
If you purchased the Toyota Aygo without foglamps, do not despair as this is also available as an aftersales accessory. The foglamp extra will provide you with the two foglamp units for each corner which also shouldn't take too long to install. We however recommend you have this item installed by your Toyota Certified technician as it could be more complex than you would expect and can affect your vehicle's roadworthiness.
8. Rear park distance control
Another functional item that can be fitted to your used Aygo is rear park distance control. This function is split into a variety of items and while you can purchase the main park distance control kit, you might have to purchase a new rear bumper and sensor. While this will certainly be a more expensive extra to fit on your vehicle, it could stop you from reversing into objects or even worse pedestrians.
