1. When is the best time to buy a used car?

Hein: “It differs with the situation, when the fuel price goes up, then people usually trade their vehicles that are heavier on fuel and at the financial year-end people usually buy a lot, but it usually stays pretty much consistent throughout the whole year.”

2. How many kilometres is too high for a used car?

“We don't sell anything over 150,000 kilometres, then we see that the comeback ratio will be higher, but that is only for our dealership.”

3. Is mileage more important than age, or is age more important than mileage when purchasing a used car?

“Sometimes the year model for financing is better to buy a newer model with slightly higher mileage than an older model with lower mileage purely for finance purposes. But I would recommend focusing on the lower mileage if you possibly can.”

4. Is it true that it’s cheaper to buy a car with cash?

“Yes. If we sell a vehicle in cash, we don't charge them those extra on the road fees and if they don't have a trade-in we give them discounts. So if they buy cash, it's usually a better deal, and they save on interest because there are no banks involved.”

5. What are your final tips for anyone looking to buy a used car in Klerksdorp?

“I usually start with asking what do they need? Are they learning, or did they come for something with more power, or with a tow-bar? Do they need a fuel saver or did they just want something bigger? So I usually just ask what are the needs? Then it's working out the right car for the purpose.
