New vs old Hyundai Tucson: what are the top 4 differences?

Take a look at the 4 key differences between the latest Tucson and its predecessor.

Automotive News

1. Styling

In 2018, Hyundai South Africa launched an updated version of the Tucson. Compared to the older model, it’s now bolder looking with the automaker’s signature cascading grille. It also features new LED headlights, fog lights and skid plates. The front and rear bumpers have been remodelled while a new set of taillights and revised twin tailpipes enhance the rear looks. The flagship 1.6 TGDI Elite model can be had with new 19-inch alloy wheels.

2. Spec levels

For the updated Tucson three specification levels are being offered, the entry-level Premium, the mid-range Executive, and the range-topping Elite.

3. Derivatives/Engines

Two new derivatives were introduced into the Tucson range, along with a new 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The line-up now features seven derivatives, with a choice between three engines – a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine; a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine; and a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine.

Hyundai’s new in-house developed 7-speed DCT transmission is a state-of-the-art gearbox. Compared with an automatic transmission, it enhances fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and performance while maintaining its high shifting quality.

4. Interior

The latest Tucson has a smarter looking interior that starts with the completely new upper dashboard. This dashboard features high-quality soft-touch material with a double stitching line for a more high-quality feel. The focal point of the centre console is the floating audio 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also compatible with the system.
