We compared Hyundai Tucson engines, and the efficiency crown goes to…

The Hyundai Tucson’s engines are relatively economical, with the exception of the naturally aspirated petrol.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the Tucson is anything but a leader, but doesn’t return hair-raising figures either. The most economical variant in the Tucson range is capable of 7.9L/100km. Which is not enough to beat class leaders like the Nissan Qashqai for outright fuel economy as the Qashqai is capable of 6.2 L/100 km when paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
L/100km & CO2
Of the three engines in the South African Tucson range, the 1995cc found in the Tucson R2.0 Diesel Automatic is the most efficient. Claimed fuel economy stands at 7.9L/100km and CO2 emissions of 164 grams per kilometre mean it’s a top choice.
The 1999cc version in the 2.0-litre claims 8.9-9.0L/100km and 185 grams per kilometre in CO2 emissions.
The other engine in the range is the 1591cc powering the Tucson 1.6 TGDI. It’s capable of 8.5L/100km and CO2 emissions of 186 grams per kilometre.
Insurance
The Tucson's insurance premium would depend on your driver’s profile, however, the cover shouldn't be too expensive. It’s worth mentioning though, that it is possible that some higher trim levels could have a lower insurance premium due to it having better safety kit.
Warranty
Hyundai offers:
- A 5 year/90 000 km service plan;
- A 7-year/200 000 km warranty (comprised of Hyundai’s 5-year/150 000 km warranty, with an extended 2-year/50 000 km drivetrain warranty); an
- Roadside assistance for 5 years or 150 000.
All service intervals are 15 000 km, with a mandatory initial 5 000 km service for the Tucson 1.6 TGDI Elite derivative.
The Tucson offers an impressive warranty and beats the cover of many rivals, including the Qashqai.
