Having sold over 800 000 examples of the previous generation Macan, Porsche has high hopes for the new version, which, for the first time, will be an all-electric model. Porsche revealed some details recently, and here's what we've surmised.

Porsche has jumped head-first into the electric vehicle market by launching its second all-electric model, the Macan, following the Taycan. This is a massive step for the German brand as it diversifies its model range between all-electric, hybrid and internal combustion.

Bigger than before

The newcomer is some 86mm longer, has more interior space for occupants while allowing them to sit lower, has a drag coefficient of 0.25, sports a 540-litre boot, an 85-litre storage area in the front, and has a braked towing capacity of 2 000kg.

Model range

The new Macan will be available in 4 and the Turbo variants. Other notable figures include fast charging capabilities of up to 270 kW and an all-electric range of over 500km thanks to a 100kWh battery pack housed within a new PPE platform and 800-volt architecture.

The 300kW/650Nm Macan 4 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, while the 470kW/1 130Nm Macan Turbo achieves it in just 3.3 seconds, reaching top speeds of 220 km/h and 260 km/h, respectively.

Both models feature dual-electric motors that utilise 95 kWh of the total battery. The DC charging output is up to 270 kW, with a claim that the battery can be charged from 10 to 80% within 21 minutes at a station which supports it. At regular 400-volt charging stations, a high-voltage switch in the battery splits the 800-volt battery into two batteries, each with a rated voltage of 400 volts. This enables charging at up to 135 kW, while AC charging goes up to 11 kW.

Interior

The new Macan's interior will be familiar to those who have seen newer Porsche products, with an emphasis on an uncluttered space with flat surfaces, besides the 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster, which is complemented by a 10.9-inch central display, a passenger infotainment system and a head-up display with augmented reality technology.

Local introduction

Porsche South Africa has confirmed a local introduction of 2026, with pricing to be announced closer to the time.
