Is the Proton X50 expensive to maintain?

The X50 comes with a 5-year/ unlimited km warranty and a 5-year/80 000km service plan, meaning that for most buyers, the only costs involved in the ownership process will be tyres and fuel since the aforementioned plans will cover any potential issues.

Both the Standard and Luxury guise X50 models come fitted with 215/60 R17 tyres, which, at the time of writing retailed at roughly R2 000 each, making the replacement of four tyres some R8 000. The Executive and Premium-spec models ride on 215/55 R18 tyres which retail for around R2 300 per tyre, making it R9 200 to replace all four.
