Power up!

The Opel Adam didn't create much of a stir when it was released a few years back. Favoured by stylish individuals and students, the Adam really only struck a nerve with a much younger audience. As that audience has grown out of their small hatch runabouts many of them are finding their way onto the second-hand market and into the hands of new buyers. Should you find yourself to be one of these new buyers, your Adam may be in need of a new car battery.

No need to fret though as we have you covered with a step-by-step guide to replacing the battery in your Adam yourself, saving you the time and money of a visit to a battery centre.

You will need:

  • New battery for your model (correct amperage and type)
  • 10mm, 13mm Spanners

Let's get started!

Open the bonnet.

Locate the battery

Using the 13mm spanner loosen the nuts off the hold-down bracket and remove it.

Use the 10mm spanner to remove the negative terminal.

Use the 10mm spanner again to remove the positive terminal.

Ensure that you have the correct type and amperage of battery

.

Unclip the fuse distribution block from the battery

Install new battery and replace all the terminals and brackets in reverse order.

PRO TIP: Ensure that you get the right type of battery for the model. Vehicles fitted with city start/stop systems cannot make use of lead-acid batteries, they must have a sealed type maintenance-free variant.
