Foton launches Tunland V7 and V9 in SA

Foton South Africa has officially launched its Tunland V-Series double-cab bakkies, the V7 and V9 to the local market.

 The launch event, held on November 13, 2025, marks a significant step in Foton’s long-term commitment to South Africa, which includes local Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly.

“This milestone reflects our confidence in South Africa’s potential, and our belief in its people as partners in progress,” said Foton South Africa CEO, Marius Smal. “The Tunland V-Series represents the next generation of intelligent, durable, and world-class full-size double cab bakkies built for Mzansi.”


The Tunland V-Series

Foton is positioning its V-Series as the most affordable full-sized hybrid bakkie in its segment. Both models share a 2.0-litre AUCAN turbodiesel engine (co-developed with Cummins), paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission (8AT). Both are equipped with a 48V Mild-Hybrid System, producing 120kW and  450Nm of torque.

Pricing

The local assembly initiative, which saw the first pre-production CKD pickup roll off the assembly line in October 2025, has given Foton a strategic pricing advantage. The brand is aggressively rolling out a national network, with a goal of 60 dealerships nationwide.

Both the V7 and V9 come standard with a 5-year/200 000km Warranty and a 5-year/75 000km Service Plan, along with 5 years of roadside assistance.

Key Features and Safety

Inside, highlights include a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, customisable digital instrument screen, synthetic leather seats, dual-zone climate control, and wireless charging.

On the safety front, the bakkies boast a 5-Star C-NCAP safety rating, supported by:

  • Six airbags

  • 360° camera system

  • Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)

  • Electronic Stability & Traction Control

  • Ventilated disks front and rear
