5 Foton Tunland accessories you didn’t know you needed.

The Foton Tunland first arrived in South Africa during 2012 in double cab 4X4 form with 4X2 double cab variants added to the line-up at a later date.

The Foton Tunland range is powered by a 2.8-litre Cummins diesel motor capable of 120 kW and 360 N.m of torque. Offered in five derivatives, customers can opt for either 4X2 or 4X4 models, each in two trim levels or the 4X2 Granite variant. Comfort models see the fitment of side steps while Luxury derivatives feature Bluetooth on the interior and a roll bar, tonneau cover, and side steps on the exterior.

The Foton Tunland 4X2 Comfort is the most affordable double cab model on offer from the Chinese automaker, however, lacks all the accessories you might want or need on your next trip. We list the top five accessories you can specify on your Foton Tunland.

1. Rollover bar

A rollover bar is not only an aesthetic upgrade to a vehicle but also a structural one. Fitted behind the cab on the load bay, a rollover bar will relieve the roof of the vehicle from some forces experienced during the unfortunate event of the vehicle rolling. This accessory will not only give your Tunland a finished look but also add to its safety. This accessory comes standard on the Luxury models but is optional equipment on the Comfort derivatives.

2. Tow bar

Tow bars aren't always on the top of the mind when specifying a vehicle, but can be a handy accessory. Foton offers two tow bar types for the Tunland range. A tow bar is great for hitching a trailer to transport goods when the load bay is too small. Furthermore, if you own a caravan, camping trailer or a boat, this item is a must.

3. Canopy

Whether you are transporting equipment or stock for your business or want to take your pet to the park, a canopy is good to stop items from falling out of the load bay. Canopies offer very little in terms of safety during an accident but might just deter an opportunistic criminal from grabbing something from the load bay. Foton offers Beekmans canopies as optional equipment on their Tunland range.

4. Nudge bar

While most customers will fit a nudge bar to give their vehicles an imposing look upfront, they serve an important role. In the event of a small accident, a nudge bar can protect important components behind the bumper and grille such as the radiator or intercooler on turbocharged vehicles. A nudge bar redirects the forces to the chassis which is one of the strongest structures in your vehicle.

5. Underbody protection plates

If you are going to drive off-road with your Foton Tunland, underbody protection plates should be considered. Underbody protection plates are mounted under important components such as the engine sump and transmission. The thick steel plates will protect the critical components from sharp and/or hard objects from damaging them. Provided that these components are critical for the vehicle to remain operational, and are usually the most expensive individual components on the vehicle, the price and weight trade-off by fitting underbody protection plates are easily justified.

Verdict

The Foton Tunland has been around for some time now and subsequently, there are a variety of third-party accessories readily available in the aftermarket sector. However, to keep your vehicle warranty intact, it is always a good idea to specify manufacturer-approved accessories directly from the dealership.
