Is the Audi A5 a good car?

The Audi A5 is a very good car whether you are considering the coupe, cabriolet or Sportback configuration. Offering premium styling, comfort and standard equipment, the model range will tick most boxes if not all for most car buyers.

Who is the Audi A5 a good car for?

The Audi A5 is a good car for either a professional looking for a comfortable and stylish vehicle for their morning commute or even the weekend drive to their favourite restaurant. The Sportback variant offers the same but with the practicality improved with the two extra doors and spacious rear seating which will allow the family to join in on the adventure.

Is the Audi A5 a good first car?

While the long bonnet and overall dimensions of the A5 will take some time to get used to, the model does offer front and rear park distance control sensors to assist a new driver. In addition to the ABS brakes, hill-start assist and electronic brake assist systems, the Audi A5 benefits from both traction control and stability control systems as well as 6 airbags making a very safe option for a first car, that is if you can afford it.

Is the Audi A5 a good family car?

Even though the coupe and cabriolet variants do offer rear seating, rear occupants might feel a little cramped with little legroom and the low sloping roofline. If you are considering an Audi A5 for a family vehicle, the Sportback derivatives are definitely the one you are looking for as it not only improves on the space for the rear occupants but also in the boot for the additional luggage that you might need to take along on road trips.

Is there a Hybrid Audi A5?

While you won't find a fully hybrid or even a plugin hybrid Audi A5 model as yet, the German automaker has added a 12-volt mild-hybrid system to the range which does improve the vehicle's efficiency.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewers opinion

"The Audi A5 is simply brilliant and therein lies its downfall. It is so good at everything that it does that it comes across as clinical and cold. It' is so scalpel-sharp, efficient and pinpoint accurate that it becomes difficult to love it, it's akin to hugging a robot."

Interior

What is the Audi A5 like inside?

Step inside the Audi A5 and you will notice that the German automaker did not hold back when it came to the design and premium materials on the interior. The sporty seats are available in either leather or leatherette and can be specified with up to five different shades. Furthermore, customers can freely specify the S Line interior with any of the Audi A5 derivatives to get access to Nappa leather seats and other improved finishes. But even in its standard specification, the interior is comfortable, quiet and uncluttered.

Style

Audi recently updated the A5 range to incorporate more of its latest design language. Upfront is a new singleframe honeycomb grille that is flatter and somewhat wider than before. Just above the grille, Audi incorporated ventilation slits reminiscent of the classic Audi Sport quattro. The front bumper now features bold blade-like forms and sees the air inlets increased in size. At the rear, the diffuser has been altered and accommodates trapezoidal tailpipes which makes the back of the car look wider. The entire A5 range gets Matrix LED headlights and LED rear lights featuring dynamic turn signals, as well as 17-inch alloy wheels as standard.
