About the New Holland T7 Methane Power LNG Tractor:
New Holland has long championed sustainable agriculture, particularly through alternative fuel technologies. For over 15 years, the brand has led the way in developing alternative propulsion solutions that offer real-world sustainability benefits to the agricultural sector.
Agricultural sustainability is closely tied to a farm's carbon footprint, but farmers also require powerful tractors capable of operating around the clock. Natural gas, especially biomethane, is currently the optimal solution, providing higher horsepower tractor performance while simultaneously reducing emissions and operating costs.
New Holland's T7 Methane Power LNG tractor represents a groundbreaking industry first and the latest advancement in the brand's Methane Power tractor lineup. It offers farmers exceptional performance for an alternative fuel tractor, significantly enhancing overall farm sustainability. This LNG-powered tractor more than doubles the autonomy capacity of the current methane-powered range, thanks to the use of liquefied methane, which offers four times the fuel storage capacity compared to compressed gas (CNG). With a day's worth of fuel autonomy and 201kW, there is no compromise in performance compared to a diesel tractor.
The LNG tractor can be fueled using captured fugitive methane, sourced from livestock waste slurry lagoons. This methane is converted into fuel-grade liquefied natural gas (LNG) using patented cryogenic processes, addressing historical challenges related to the low boiling point of this fuel source.
Compared to diesel, LNG boasts a high energy density and emits significantly fewer emissions: 80% less carbon monoxide, 90% less non-methane hydrocarbons, 98% less particulate matter, and 62% less nitrous oxide. When fueled with captured and processed bioLNG, the T7 LNG can reduce CO2 emissions by 878 tons per year.
In addition to these eco-friendly features, the LNG tractor incorporates precision farming technology, offering automation and user-friendly guidance programs for tractor operation. Thus far, LNG tractors have been deployed on multiple continents, with ongoing development and testing of prototypes to provide the best possible experience for farmers worldwide.
