Massey Ferguson MF 5S impresses Red Dot jury and here is why
With the tractor industry ploughing ahead with new technology and advancements, it is easy to overlook some key standouts. Thankfully the respected Red Dot Award has an eye on everything and has recently given an award to the MF 5S. The MF 5S is the latest tractor offered by Massey Ferguson. It follows the introduction of the impressive MF 8S. Here is what you need to know.
What is the Red Dot Award?
An international jury of professionals from across the world assessed the MF 5S in terms of its design quality and degree of innovation and found it to be above the rest in its category. The Red Dot is the award for high quality design. To emerge victorious from such a strong group of participants is testimony to the extraordinary quality of the product.
What is the MF 5S?
The MF 5S blends the compact dimensions required by livestock and mixed farmers together with superb performance and ease of use for arable operations. The MF 5S has been designed to be a multi-purpose workhorse. This modern tractor also delivers straightforward operation and enhanced features with low ownership costs.
Effective power on hand
Power for all is delivered by the latest AGCO Power 4.4-litre, four-cylinder engine that meets the latest Stage V emissions regulations. This motor develops between 78kW and 108kW for a wide range of power needs. The tractor is offered in various specification levels which includes: Exclusive, Efficient, Panoramic and Essential specifications.
The right gear for the job
MF 5S Series tractors are available with either the Dyna-4 or Dyna-6 semi-powershift transmission, both with Automatic Mode. Also fitted is the new Brake-to-Neutral feature which disengages drive when the brakes are applied. The transmission is set-up for efficiency as well as ease of use.
What about lift capacity?
The MF 5S Serie tractor offers industry-leading manoeuvrability, excellent visibility down to just 4m over the slim, curved bonnet as well as efficient, high-flow hydraulics delivering up to 110litres/min. High performance out in the field is ensured thanks to the robust three-point linkage, which can lift up to 6000kg – 14% more than the previous models.
Thanks to its impressive 9.5t Gross Vehicle Weight, which is now 12% higher than before, the MF 5S can safely carry and handle larger loads for increased productivity.
It’s a tech-fest
Another area where the MF 5S Series impressed the Red Dot jury was in the technology that it offered. This tractor can be fully connected with MF Connect telemetry which offers a new Geofencing function. This improves logistics management and security by sending alerts to smartphones and devices if and when machines exit or enter predefined areas. Furthermore, Pre-installed MF TaskDoc software is used to create field records, as applied maps, log fuel use, make job reports as well as keep an accurate account of all inputs to every hectare.
