Massey Ferguson 8S now offers more power
Following the launch of the impressive Massey Ferguson 7S, the agricultural giant has just unveiled its latest model, the updated 8S which offers more power and a few new features. Here are the details.
Last year, Massey Ferguson won the TOTY competition. Judges acknowledged the vehicle's impressive power, features and technology that was on offer. The 2021 MF 8S Series offers power ranging from 152kW to 197kW which is very competitive. Massey Ferguson has however improved this power offering substantially for its latest iteration of the 8S Series.
More power
The engine used across the now six model line-up is a 7.4-litre, 6-cylinder that ranges from 152kW right up to the now 227kW output that also develops an astonishing 1280Nm of torque at as little as 1000rpm. Each model offers 15kW of extra power thanks to the unique Engine Power Management.
New transmission with new modes
Along with the increased power on offer, Massey Feguson has also redesigned the tractors gearbox. The new Dyna-VT continuously variable transmission is standard on the flagship 305hp (227kW) and an option on all the others. It now features an efficiency enhancing Automatic Mode that allows operators to use the Multipad lever or foot pedal to alter forward speed, while it automatically sets the optimum engine rpm according to the load and speed. As well as delivering smoother operation, this also reduces fuel consumption.
With regards to the other models like the MF 8S.285 down to the MF 8S.205, these can be specified with either the new Dyna-VT Super ECO, latest Dyna E-Power Dual Clutch or Dyna-7 semi-powershift transmissions.
What is the Dyna E-Power Dual Clutch?
The Dyna E-Power Dual Clutch provides a total of 28 forward and reverse speeds with optimum efficiency which delivers best in class fuel economy, along with the comfort of seamless shifting while transmitting maximum power to the ground. This technology also provides the efficiency benefits of a fully mechanical powershift without any torque interruption. This reduces power loss by up to 26% at higher speeds, delivering fuel savings up to 5%.
Improved connectivity
The updated 8S also makes use of updated connectivity technology in the form of the latest Datatronic 5. It’s a 9-inch terminal which is as easy and intuitive to use as a mobile phone or tablet. It also makes use of an anti-glare touchscreen and short cut keys for easy operation. This single screen system controls all the tractor functions and manages all MF Technologies such as MF Guide, MF Section and Rate Control as well as MF Task Doc data capture and transfer. Another new Datatronic 5 option enables the radio, mobile phone media to be operated through the Datatronic 5 screen, with inputs via Bluetooth, USB, or Aux lead. Operators are alerted to incoming calls by a pop-up on the screen.
Improved sound insulation
Engineers have given this tractor a 24cm gap which separates the cab from the engine. This unique Protect-U concept completely insulates the MF 8S cab from noise, heat, and vibrations, with noise levels of just 68dB. It is also one of the quietest in the segment and, with an interior capacity of 3.4m³, it is also one of the most spacious.
