The Hesston by Massey Ferguson 1842S small square baler offers hay producers a significant boost in productivity while maintaining the exceptional construction and reliability they've come to rely on from Hesston by Massey Ferguson. As the larger sibling of the market-leading Hesston 1840 Series small square baler, this new in-line square baler delivers 20% more capacity, ensuring consistent, high-quality bale production to maximise returns on investment. The new baler was officially unveiled at the Farm Progress Show and has already been hard at work in hay fields.

Enhanced Productivity
The Hesston by Massey Ferguson 1842S small square baler significantly elevates capacity through various design enhancements, offering a substantial increase in productivity for North American hay producers. Compared to the Hesston 1840 Series, the new Hesston 1842S features a 77-inch pick-up, down-turning cross augers, dual feeding forks, and operates at 145 rpm, resulting in a 20% higher feed intake capacity. Additionally, a 20% heavier-duty flywheel slip clutch ensures consistent speed, reduces noise and vibrations, and minimises power surges, enhancing the operator's comfort.
The new baler also incorporates a longer OptiForm bale chamber, an exclusive Hesston feature that contributes to denser, uniform bales. Farmers can achieve 20% higher density when desired, thanks to a 39% heavier plunger and a 6% longer stroke, resulting in uniform, brick-like bales that are ideal for use with accumulators.

To meet the demand for straightforward dependability from hay producers while providing the necessary productivity, the new small square baler builds upon Hesston's decades of industry expertise.
Like the Hesston 1840 Series, the new baler features an in-line pick-up design, a brand-exclusive feature crucial for producing high-quality, uniform bales. It ensures smooth crop flow without abrupt direction changes, leading to uniform feeding and throughput, resulting in denser, more consistent bales.
The design also incorporates high-capacity dual feeding forks with six total tines for enhanced processing capacity, paired with a new high-capacity feeding chute featuring a tapered design for smooth, unhindered crop flow.
Consistent with all Hesston equipment, the new baler design maintains heavy-duty construction and reduces moving parts, ensuring a durable, maintenance-friendly haying solution. The updated mainframe relies on a proven design capable of withstanding high loads and delivering a long service life. A heavy-duty equal-angle driveline with a mid-support pedestal ensures reliable transmission power and reduces the risk of tire interference during sharp turns.
Additionally, a heavy-duty gearbox is engineered to handle more power and higher loads. Eight heavy-duty plunger bearings minimise downtime and operating costs. The main drive chain layout has been redesigned for improved accessibility and easier adjustment.
