Towards the middle of 2021, Toyota unveiled the highly anticipated GR Yaris model. Much of the excitement associated with this particular vehicle is because it is what is known as a homologation model. In short, for the Japanese automaker to enter this race-developed vehicle into international racing events to compete for championships, it needed to build a series of road-going models too.
Ultimately, normal customers could get their hands on a vehicle that was first developed for racing and then adapted to normal public use. However, some of the media fleet vehicles owned by Toyota South Africa Motors never made it to a dealership as the Japanese manufacturer had other plans. It started it's very own racing series called the GR Cup and AutoTrader motoring content creator, Sean Nurse, was one of the few that was selected to race in this competitive series.

After months of gruelling racing at circuits all over the country, the championship was wrapped up at Zwartkops Raceway. Despite the double victories obtained by Sean in the last round of the GR Cup, he took a respectable third place in the championship overall. But we asked Sean how the GR Cup is different from the road-going models and in this video, he explains it all.
