BYD is a name you will soon become familiar with. Selling over 3.02 million vehicles in 2023, BYD has become a new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer to take note of. Their offerings in other parts of the world are so prolific that last year, one in every five NEVs sold was a BYD. The brand is now available locally, and its electric vehicles are set to offer consumers more of a choice at a price that is more palatable than we've become accustomed to.

The first model to hit our shores is the rather enticing Atto 3, available in Standard and Extended range variations. With pricing starting from under R800 000 and a range of almost 400 km, the Atto 3 is a viable alternative to the more established EV offerings in the entry-level segment. We visited the Kelston BYD dealership to wrangle an Atto 3 Extended from their hands to find out more about what this new EV is about.
