New Jaecoo J7 Coming Soon: Price, Specs and Release Info
The latest entrant into the SA automotive market is a sub-brand of Chery called Jaecoo. These stylish yet capable family SUVs are set to shange the game once they hit showroom floors next week. We take a look at what potential buyers can expect.
Cool hunter inbound
With the first Jaecoo model's arrival imminent, the new brand, under the auspices of Chery SA, invited journalists for a sneak peek at the new vehicle. Jaecoo is an amalgam of two words, "Jaeger" (German- Hunter) and Cool, we were not entirely sure where the company's marketing dept came up with this, but it fits. It encapsulates what the Jaecoo brand is, a cool suburban SUV that looks like it's prowling the city streets.

We managed to get in a small test drive and a touch and feel of the new Jaecoo J7 model ahead of its local launch this week; we will of course report back after the proper first drive at launch with a full run-down, of what you are getting when you buy into a Jaecoo. Although we have had an initial touch a feel of the top-spec model, Jaecoo has kept the actual model lineup and local pricing tightly hidden but here's what we know so far.
Model Specification
- LED lighting front and rear
- 18",19" diamond cut rims
- 14" infotainment and vehicle control screen
- leatherette interior
- electrically adjustable seating
- 360-degree camera
- Apple Car Play and Android Auto
- ventilated and heated seats
- panoramic sunroof
Engine
The Jaecoo J7 is powered by a 1.6l turbo petrol engine and sends power to the front or all four wheels, depending on model variant, via a 7-speed DCT. Jaecoo says the package delivers 145 kW and 290 Nm. We believe this is the same powerpack that can be found in Chery and Omoda vehicles and if that is anything to go by then you can be guaranteed that the J7 is going to be bulletproof.
Price
As we mentioned earlier, Jaecoo has been tight-lipped about a model lineup and the all-important pricing until the local launch. If we were to wager a guess the Jaecoo J7 will fall into the 650 - 700k range but if you follow our social media channels you will be able to find out soon enough. Teh launch is scheduled for Friday 12 April and our first drive review and thoughts will be available then.
