Not too long ago the Volvo V40 still featured as a new vehicle from the Scandinavian automaker, however, is no longer sold as new. Since then Volvo has been transforming its product range which now predominantly consist of SUVs and crossovers. Thus if you are in the market for a used Volvo V40 model, you will have to scour the second-hand marketplace.
If you are in the market for the Volvo hatchback, be sure to try and find a recent model so that there is as much of the warranty left as possible. The V40 was sold with a 5 year / 100 000km warranty and maintenance plan which promises the owner that Volvo Car South Africa will replace any part or parts of vehicles purchased and operated in South Africa that are found to be defective in material or workmanship.
What the warranty does NOT cover:
Like any warranty, the terms exclude components that experience wear and tear or is operated incorrectly. Here are a few areas which are not covered under that manufacturer car warranty.
- Normal wear and tear.
- Components that failed due to the improper maintenance of the vehicle in accordance with Volvo’s maintenance schedules and service instructions.
- Component failure because the owner didn't use Volvo specified parts or fluids.
- Any damage resulting from neglect, accident or improper use.
- Any unauthorised modifications of the vehicle or parts and modifications completed with non-approved parts.
- Performance Tuning excluding Volvo approved performance tuning.
- Refilling or topping up with incorrect fuel, e.g. petrol used instead of diesel.
- The use of bio-ethanol alternative fuels in concentrations that exceed 10%.
The following items may be covered by the Volvo Maintenance Plan as long as the service intervals are met on time.
- Replacement of consumable fluids, i.e. oils, anti-freeze, brake fluid, windscreen washer fluid.
- Wiper blades.
- Oil, air and fuel filters.
- Drive belts and the replacement or adjustment thereof.
- Wheel alignment/balancing.
- Lubrication.
- Spark plugs.
- Brake pads/discs replacement due to wear.
AutoTrader strongly recommends reading the owner's manual or visiting your local Volvo dealer to ascertain whether your warranty is still in effect and if the Maintenance Plan will still cover you.
