Fitting accessories to a car is a good way of making your chariot more personalised. In the case of the classy Volvo V40, we suggest you go the factory-approved route to retain the V40’s premium feel. Here we select our top-six V40 accessories, available from Volvo dealers.

Volvo’s V40 is one of the most stylish premium hatchbacks on the market. Excellent build-quality and safety features make this car a sound choice in many respects. For a safety profile on Volvo cars in general, click here.

The V40 evolved into a hatchback a good few years ago, (the nameplate started out as a station-wagon version of the S40 sedan some two decades ago) and in 2016 styling updates made it even more attractive looking. For a 2016 launch report on the up-dated V40,click here.

The V40 range

The Volvo V40 comes in seven different models, with engines ranging from an 88 kW diesel to a 160 kW turbocharged petrol unit that provides plenty of punch. All models come with an automatic transmission, with no manual gearboxes available. A notable feature of all V40s in the range is that they are fitted with no less than eight airbags!

Choose factory-approved accessories

With such a classy design, you would not be advised to fit accessories that detract from the overall quality of the V40’s refined image. The good news is that Volvo Cars South Africa offers a line of factory-approved accessories for the V40 that are well worth a look.

You can check them out on-line, or by visiting your nearest Volvo dealer.

Our top six Volvo V40 accessories

  1. Ailos alloy 18-inch rims. Our advice is to start with a special set of wheels if you are keen on accessorising your V40. These so-called Ailos alloys measure 18-inches in diameter and feature a unique “twisted spoke” design that is extremely attractive and sporty. They have a width of 7,5J.
  2. Rear diffuser with dual tailpipes. This piece of kit blends very well with the sleek wedge-shape of the V40, without being in anyway brash. The upper segment of the diffuser can be ordered in the same factory colour as your V40’s bodywork, or in contrasting grey. It is designed to integrate with twin tailpipes.
  3. Roof spoiler. The roof spoiler is a little more extrovert in styling, with its aircraft-inspired fins and winglets, but it nevertheless avoids being “boy-racerish”. It comes with a high-level brake light, and is painted in the same standard colour as your Volvo V40.
  4. Load organiser. The V40 is not noted for its huge luggage compartment, but this load organising mat with various compartments enables you to transport odds and ends without them rattling around in the boot and driving you crazy! It’s made of durable rubberised material, as well as three aluminium dividers so you can organise your loading compartments to suit your requirements.
  5. Parcel shelf net. Also in the same line of stowing luggage properly and safely is this parcel shelf net that fits beneath the standard parcel shelf, again making smaller items secure, and protecting them as well as the luggage compartment of your V40.
  6. Rearward-facing child seat. Few manufacturers know more about occupant safety than Volvo, so it makes lots of sense to buy a Volvo-approved child seat. These rearward-facing child seats are designed for toddlers from the age of nine months to young children aged six.  They feature sensible tilt and recline options, and are easy to install, adjust or remove. *Front-facing child seats are also available for larger children.
